photo: Marty Pelletier Corn Mash is the Moscow, ID based project of singer/songwriter of me Bill LaVoie. Originally formed in Seattle in 2003, the band has undergone several makeovers, had a jillion members, and enjoyed success for several years based out of Missoula, MT. The music is a mix of original rock, swing, blues, country, punk, funk, and bluegrass. The subject matter is cynical, glorious, angry, sweet, dirty, and sometimes absurd. It's all fun to play but damn there's nothing quite like rock with rippin' ho downs in the mix - good melody and imagry even if screamed. Live shows also include plenty of covers we do to our liking - whatever is on the menu. As for shows, the band has done a ton including some at some pretty good venues/festivals and also with some pretty well-known bands. Looking forward to more of that. The move back to Moscow reunited me with mostly old friends that now make up the band and we've been doing a pile of shows from Seattle/Portland to Missoula, Sandpoint to Boise etc. The current line up is myself on guitar/vocals, Joe Evavold (Hammond/Accordion/Clav), Ryan Gibler (bass), and Bennett Barr (djembe). When big rock is necessary there's also perrenial bandmates from Zootown Joel Dupree (drums) and Aaron Anderson (mando/tele/fiddle) plus frequent guest Simon Tucker of Lewiston, ID on electric guitar. The CD Another Sure Thing released in February 2005 is a variety of originals featuring several talented guest musicians on banjo, harmonica, bass, drums, backup vocals, and saw. But Joe Evavold's accordion and Hammond playing is really a distinctive force. On the horizon is a new CD and playing gigs. Hope to see you out. — Bill |
